Assessment is ongoing and students will experience a variety of assessments during their learning journey, in class as well as via specific assessments or Mock exams at KS4. These assessments will test what they can remember as well as how they apply their knowledge. Students in KS3 will be assessed throughout their schemes of learning. This variety of assessment will produce working at ‘levels’ two times per year. Students and parents can use the assessment grids below to consider what knowledge and/or skills need to be developed to move to the next level.

Students in KS4 will also be assessed as they are learning as well as having mock exams, which are sat in examination conditions. Together, these assessments will determine the level a student is currently working at and staff will also produce a predicted grade. (9-1)

Students across the academy will also take the NGRT reading test each year so all staff have a clear understanding of students’ reading age and abilities. This ensures reading in lessons and reading interventions will support and challenge progress of all students.

KS3 Stages of Excellence – Assessment Grids

Attainment at KS3 is centered around students knowing more, remembering more and being able to do more overtime.  We recognise that student progress is often non-linear and that students can spend too much time focusing on the grade with not enough attention being given to the gaps in knowledge and skills that need to develop.

KS3 Assessment Grids will support students to identify the knowledge and skills required at different points during KS3.

The grids also allow us to report on the level of understanding students currently have of the curriculum that has been taught in each subject area up to that point. Each subject at KS3 assesses students using clear, subject specific criteria, which is linked to the curriculum content.

Assessment grids coming soon.
