It promises to be a warmer week so please make sure your child has a re-fillable bottle to take advantage of our fountains at social times and also has taken any hayfever medication. I have been suffering with this over the weekend!
We will review on a day to day basis whether to revert to ‘shirt sleeve order’ if the weather becomes extreme.
I spent some time on Saturday at Alexander Stadium watching some of our gems compete in the West Midlands Athletics Championships. Congratulations to Blaise in Year 10 who jumped an incredible 5.5m in the long jump and goes on to next week’s ‘Mason Trophy’ event in Stoke.
Elsewhere at the Academy, it was wonderful to see budding drama students engaging in activities with the Hippodrome around The Lion King, our potential engineers working with HS2 to explore what careers might be open to them and also Year 10 Art and Design students visiting the School of Jewellery to craft their own designs.
We have so many strong partnerships with organisations that give students so many worthwhile opportunities.
This week, for example, some of our students will be visiting Oxford University and we also welcome Jay Williams, founder of global brand Hoodrich, to give an inspiring workshop to our Business Studies students.
I’d like to invite parents to come along to see the work of another impactful partnership at the Academy : the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. 62 of our students receive FREE music tuition from the RBC and some of these talented students, including our CORE Us choir, will be taking part in an event which celebrates diversity in Birmingham. Tickets can be reserved by scanning the QR code in the image opposite.
Year 11 students enter into the final period of exams this week and we are making arrangements for their Leavers’ Lunch on Friday 23rd June 2023. All students will leave the Academy at 12.25 on Friday 23rd June 2023 to accommodate the Year 11 Leavers’ Lunch event.
Year 10 start their mock exams this week and all students have been given a timetable. The afternoon exams this week are likely to finish around 3.30 for all Year 10 students.
It was my pleasure to show around Cameron Parker last week who has started work to mentor some of our Year 10 students. More about Cameron can be found here and he was inspired by his first time visiting JQA. We spent time walking around the school together and saw high standards, high quality teaching and learning, students shining in lessons. Cameron said his biggest takeaway was the smiles of our students!
As always, you can call the Academy on 0121 729 7220, leaving a message if the line is busy and we will get back to you. Our line is very busy in the daytime so I encourage parents to use the voicemail facility by pressing option 2. If you would like urgent support, you can always reach Mr Bibb (our Designated Safeguarding Lead) on option 4.
You can always contact me directly at: [email protected]
