I hope you had another lovely long weekend, celebrating the King’s Coronation. CORE Extra resumes today so students will leave at 16.10 as usual.

It’s Mental Health Awareness Month in May and we are using personal development activities all week to raise awareness of this year’s theme of ‘anxiety’. We encourage our students to reach out and speak to any adult, particularly our non-teaching ‘Polishing Team’ or use the Sharp System to make a referral for themselves or a friend. We have a counsellor working with our students each Monday from Two Ten.

Our five shiniest gems took their Golden Table reward on Friday, having lunch at the 24 Carat Bistro – a Caribbean restaurant on Warstone Lane in the heart of the JQ.

Some of our Year 10 students have started working with representatives from the international company, Goldman Sachs, as part of a mentoring programme called ‘Real Deal’ which is exciting. This is another example of a strong link with a world-class organisation that CORE students get to experience.

Some of our students are taking part in a French culinary experience on Wednesday and we are looking forward to them sampling a taste of France with an experienced chef joining us.

Student Parliament meets again today at The Jointworks and we have lots to discuss on the agenda.

Year 11 start their Summer exams next week; some students have already taken part in external assessments in Art and DT. A timetable of all exams is on our website and we are pleased to share details of our ‘Breakfast Boosters’ for Year 11 students to attend immediately before their exams. We will schedule revision and exam alert texts to all parents of Year 11 students. It is important in this month of exams to support your child as they may be anxious. Please reach out to us if we can support you with this. The team supporting Year 11 through this period is named on our website: https://www.corejewelleryquarter.academy/year-11/

A reminder that all students in Year 11 have GCSE Pod accounts as well as access to Seneca, MathsWatch and other revision resources and materials. Parents of Year 11 students should be ensuring their child has an active revision schedule.

As always, you can call the Academy on 0121 729 7220, leaving a message if the line is busy and we will get back to you. Our line is very busy in the daytime so I encourage parents to use the voicemail facility by pressing option 2. If you would like urgent support, you can always reach Mr Bibb (our Designated Safeguarding Lead) on option 4.
