It’s been a brilliant first week back to school after the holidays. ‘Eid Mubarak!’ to all families that were celebrating over the weekend.
This week sees a strike by teachers in the National Education Union on Thursday. Year 11 are expected to attend site to do a day of coursework and also crucial English and Maths work in the run up to the exams which start shortly. Students in Years 7-10 should remain at home on Thursday and work on assignments and apps such as Reading Plus, MathsWatch etc and a suggested timetable for this is now on our website.
A letter outlining all arrangements is also on our website.
We expect all students to attend on Friday as normal.
You may have seen JQA on BBC News on Thursday last week in a lovely feature about our partnership with Birchfield Harriers. If you missed it, you can find the video here. We have some potential ‘podium’ athletes at the Academy who are enjoying the coaching they are receiving from this famous athletics club.
We have been given an award by Birmingham Civic Society for our work to support families during the recent Coronavirus pandemic. This recognises our commitment to our community.
Our CCF cadets are raising money in the community for the Turkey/Syria earthquake victims this Saturday. Please come along and support them at the JQ event to celebrate the King’s Coronation. There will be food, music and souvenirs to buy. It takes place at Warstone Lane Cemetery from 1pm on Saturday 29th April.
A link to apply for a FREE bus pass is now on our website and families can also check to see if they qualify for free school meals via our website too. In these tough times, in a cost of living crisis, if families need any support, please drop into our Coffee Mornings from 9-11 am each Wednesday.
A reminder that we have two national Bank Holidays coming up on Monday 1st May and Monday 8th May 2023.
As always, you can call the Academy on 0121 729 7220, leaving a message if the line is busy and we will get back to you. Our line is very busy in the daytime so I encourage parents to use the voicemail facility by pressing option 2. If you would like urgent support, you can always reach Mr Bibb (our Designated Safeguarding Lead) on option 4.
